Sectional champions: Highlanders beat Silver Creek on penalties to win Sectional 15

Floyd Central are Sectional 15 champions. The Highlanders and Silver Creek were level 1–1 after regulation and two overtime periods in Saturday night’s final at Seymour — both goals came in the first half — and Floyd Central won the penalty shootout 3–1.

It capped a week built on defending. Floyd Central held Jeffersonville scoreless through two overtimes on Tuesday and won that shootout 5–4, then beat New Albany 1–0 in Thursday’s semifinal. Three matches, one goal conceded, two shootout wins. The varsity record moves to 8-8-3.

Next is the regional semifinal at Castle on Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 PM Central — 7:00 PM Eastern. Castle (16-2-1) won Sectional 16, beating Evansville North 1–0 in its final, and won the regular-season meeting with the Highlanders 7–0 on September 19. The regional championship is Saturday, October 17.

Regional tickets are digital only through Eventlink — $10 per session, children five and under free. Castle High School is at 3344 Hwy 261 in Newburgh. Tickets, directions and streaming info are on the program’s sectional page.
